		CPSR/Japan Annual Conference

 CPSR Japan Chapter (CPSR/Japan) helds 2004 annual conference
on September 3rd (Friday), 2004 in Tokyo.

Members and the public are invited to learn more about this year's
activities of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility in
Japan. This year, we have a keynote speech by CPSR new president
William J. Drake.

CPSR-- http://www.cpsr.org -- is an international public-interest
alliance of computer scientists and others interested in the impact of
information technology on society. CPSR attempts to direct public
attention to difficult choices concerning the applications of
computing and how those choices affect society. CPSR was founded in
1981 by computer professionals in the Silicon Valley concerned about
the use of computers in nuclear weapons systems. CPSR has working
groups and chapters throughout the world and is based in Palo Alto,
CA.
CPSR/Japan was formed in 2002 by CPSR members in Japan.

        CPSR日本支部年次大会のお知らせ
　　　　〜社会的責任を考えるコンピュータ専門家の会〜

 「社会的責任を考えるコンピュータ専門家の会」日本支部 (英語名:
Computer Professionls for Social Responsibility Japan Chapter. 以下，
CPSR/Japan) は，2004年9月3日(金曜日)秋葉原にて第3回CPSR/Japan年次大会
を開催します．コンピュータの社会的問題に関心をお持ちの報道関係者のみな
さまのご参加を心からお待ちしております．

　今回のCPSR日本支部年次大会では，CPSR本部から会長の William J. Drake 
が来日し，CPSRの国際的な活動についてスピーチを行なう予定です．
 そして，2002年夏の設立以来3年目を迎えたCPSR/Japanの各メンバーによる活
動内容を報告するとともに，コンピュータ専門家の視点から，コンピュータに
関する社会的問題および政策決定についてオープンディスカッション形式の討
議を行ないます．

 活動報告: 技術情報の提供にかんする報告
	   「住民のプライバシーの保護に関する新しい考え方と電子自治体における
	     そのシステム的な担保の仕組みについての研究会」報告書
	   「地域住民と自治体のための情報セキュリティ入門」
 Winny開発者の著作権侵害幇助に対する初公判について
 など

●CPSRおよびCPSR/Japanについて
 CPSR/Japanは，アメリカに本拠を置くCPSR (Computer Professionals for
Social Responsibility) の日本国内の会員によって2002年6月に設立されまし
た．CPSRはコンピュータ技術の社会への影響について考えるコンピュータ科学
者たちによって結成された公益法人で，シリコンバレーで設立されてからす
で20年以上の歴史を持ち，現在では27カ国の千数百人が会員となっています．

 CPSRでは，情報通信技術政策の分析および提案，議会での証言，ネットワー
ク社会での権利やプライバシーの保護など，研究から実践まで様々なプロジェ
クトを推進してきました．その活動が認められ，2004年にコンピュータ専門
NGO としてはじめて国連経済社会理事会(ECOSOC)における特別協議資格
(Special Consultative Status) を取得しています．

 CPSR/Japanは，企業開発者・学術研究機関・フリーランスなどさまざまな立
場の有志によって構成される任意団体です．設立役員を山根信二(東京大学大
学院学際情報学府博士課程)，藤本一男(作新学院大学人間文化学部助教授)，
伊藤穣一(ネオテニー社長)が務め，山根信二がチェアマンに就任しています．
