Formatting Content: Using the Epoz Editor
This document reviews how to properly use the epoz editor (a visual/wysiwyg editor) to format pages and edit content.
The EPOZ editor has been included in this site as a convenience to
assist non-programmers in adding and editing content. The editor
should be used conservatively.
Please do not use the editor for:
- Changing text or heading color, font size or font face
- Indenting text
- Changing the background of the page
- Justification (unless you must and then be aware that the resulting code will not be standards compliant)
- Copying/pasting content from word processing documents (*see note below)

Create headings
Please take in account that the "Heading One" (<h1>) is already used as the page's title, and will be rendered with blue background. Headings should be used according to a hierarchical and logic structure. The heading options are:Heading One

Paragraphs
(Some of this contradicts a message to the list -- please use this document as definitive reference)
The best way to create paragraphs is:
- Select "paragraph" from the drop down list. When needed a new paragraph, strike 2 carriage returns. The next paragraph will be formatted as the previous one.
- If there's a text with no format, with blocks separated by 2 carriage returns, and later applied the "paragraph" style to it, it will have extra space. In that case, please select the first paragraph, apply the "paragraph" style, go to the end of paragraph, press "delete" from your keyboard until the first line of the next block is on the paragraph; then strike return twice.
- If pasting a text from an external editor (like notepad), you probably will have to clean the format a little. The best approach could be the one depicted in the previous point.
- The "paragraph" style should be selected always after inserting
another block element (like headings, tables and lists).
Please notice that if not adding a description for the page, there will be a line between the title and the following text. Don't try to delete it in the body area as it's not there!
Adding a Link
- While you are viewing that document, click the "edit" button.
- scroll down to where you want the link. If there is text that you want to link, highlight that text. If not, type the text you want to link. (Shortcut note: if you are linking a URL that is written out on the page, highlight it and copy it before the next step.)
- in the green bottons over the text area, click on the one with a globe (when you have your mouse over, it says "insert link"). You will see a box that pops up and asks you to insert the hyperlink.
- there are two options of an address to insert:

- 1. the whole URL (ie everything that you would see in your browser
http://www.empresasustentable.com/...).
this is NECESSARY if the link is not part of the site (ie, you are
linking to another Web site). In this case, the http:// must be present.
- 2. for pages within the same site, you can type the link from the
"root" (ie the part after http://www.empresasustentable.com
. you start with /. So a link to the news folder would be "/news"
(without the ",").
- 1. the whole URL (ie everything that you would see in your browser
http://www.empresasustentable.com/...).
this is NECESSARY if the link is not part of the site (ie, you are
linking to another Web site). In this case, the http:// must be present.
- press save and then test the link after the page reloads.
Notes about Epoz Editor
Copy/paste
Transferring content from a document you have in another format (ie non-html) can be used to quickly move content into the Web site, but can also create problems if not done correctly. Please observe the following practices:
- Do not copy/paste directly from word processor documents (ie .doc, .sxw). When you copy, much of the formatting data from the word processor is copied also. In some cases, the visual editor will not be able to process that information and it can result in strange characters or pages that cannot be displayed properly.
- Copy/paste should be done from a:

- a) text processor document (preferred): You can create this by
opening Notepad or any text editor, and pasting content from the word
processor. Once the text is in the text processor, you can copy/paste
into the Epoz editor.
- b) Standards compliant Web source (not preferred, but acceptable).
Since the copy function copies formatting from the source, a standards
compliant Web page can be copied. However, some of the formatting
information that is copied may interfere with the styles of the page
you create in this site.
- a) text processor document (preferred): You can create this by
opening Notepad or any text editor, and pasting content from the word
processor. Once the text is in the text processor, you can copy/paste
into the Epoz editor.
