Government Censorship Threatens the Information Infrastructure
Several bills now being considered in the U.S. Congress could, under the guise of protecting children from pornography, prevent all Internet users from exchanging their views freely. Individual states have already passed laws restricting speech on electronic networks, and the trend is spreading to other countries as well.Censorship on the Internet does not simply threaten the democratic rights of all (as if that were not bad enough); it could also undermine the Internet's value for commerce and research. Basic Internet services like News and the World Wide Web cannot survive under censorship!
