  • 19970301 Notes

    • It has been months since I last updated this list, and I apologize. While I am in graduate school I will only be able to update the list quarterly, due to the increased work load I have assumed. Please let me know if this lowers the usefulness of the resource for you.

    • I have removed the frames from this edition, partly because of a complaint from a user who didn't like frames and <eh hem!> didn't feel like learning, but mostly because I think I found a better way to navigate among pages. Client-side imagemaps are a relatively new feature available to Navigator 3.0 or above, and to Internet Explorer 2.0 and above. Lynx users cannot avail themselves of inline images, so I have left the old navigation buttons. I like imagemaps because they leave more room in the window than frames do--those static regions are gone. New pages fill the window again, although I understand I could also have fixed this with the 'target="_top"' anchor modification. Thanks to Shelley A. in Oakland for the client-side imagemap suggestion! If you hate them, wait a month or two and then let me know.

    • I have added a new section, the California Information Infrstructure (CII) Pathfinder.

    • For those of you interested in HTML technicalities, I have added meta tags, mostly following the Dublin Core, to all the pages. I encourage you to add them to your pages, too.

    • As a result of some schoolwork, I created a CEGI Background and Rationale page. Long, but shorter than the paper.

    • For tips, corrections, links and wishes, thanks go out to Michael D. in Santa Maria, Adolph S. near Santa Barbara, Michael T. in San Francisco, Chuck K., Doug M. & Carl H. somewhere in cyberspace... Keep those data packets coming. Thank You!

    • My wife and I live in Oakland. We all know it's the best place in the world--but it's not the only place in the world. Help me find links "outside of the Bay Area," where most Californians live. If you have URLs from SoCal, Soquel, or your home town, please--let me know!

Send me email if you have a suggestion, complaint or request. This resource is for you.
