Technology & Values for a Digital Age

Saturday and Sunday, October 4 & 5
Berkeley, California

The transition to digital forms of commerce and business is already having a major influence on our society and economy. This conference will explore the connection between technology, economic values, and human values in our communities, at our workplaces, and in the larger marketplace of commerce and ideas.

Some topics that we might consider for this conference are:

  • The impact of the new technology on jobs and income
  • The place of the local community in a global economy
  • Open information access and just compensation for creators
  • Technowealth and the community
  • The evolution and devolution of work
  • Social and environment costs of going digital
  • The changing face of opportunity in the virtual corporation
  • The effect of computers on productivity
  • Access to technology for low-income communities
  • Digital commerce and new economic models
  • The information product: commercialization, intellectual property and free speech
