INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Fall, 1996
Time: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays
Venue: 289 Undergraduate Library
** LIS199: INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
** A hands-on course that introduces students to
basic technological competencies necessary to function effectively as
an information professional in any setting. Use of information
technologies is applied to areas of relevance to library and
information science.
** Prerequisite: No coursework, but GSLIS entry-level technology
requirements will be assumed.
** To be offered: All semesters.
** Credit: 2 credit hours (will not apply towards the graduate units required
for the GSLIS MS degree)
** Course Objectives:
1. Introduce technological concepts and their implications for
information access, organization, and use.
2. Acquire basic competencies in computer technologies found in
libraries and other information settings.
3. Learn about new and emerging information technologies and how to
evaluate them
4. Utilize information technologies to solve problems directly
related to issues in library and information science
** FORMAT: Lab sessions, in which students will follow instructions
from a lab instructor to accomplish class goals.
