Call for Nominations

CPSR 2003 Board Elections

To run for election, or vote, you must be a member in good standing on March 7th, 2003.

The deadline for CPSR Board Nominations is Friday, March 7th.

Here are CPSR Board Elections 2003 details.

During the spring of 2003, CPSR will hold elections to fill seven vacancies on its Board of Directors. These will all be for three-year terms.

Duties expected of every board member include:

  • attending both physical and virtual board meetings,

  • maintaining membership in CPSR during tenure on the board,

  • being subscribed to the cpsr-board's email lists,

  • voting on 75% or more of motions before the board,

  • avoiding actual and apparent conflicts of interest,

  • complying with CPSR ByLaws,

  • foregoing direct compensation from CPSR,

  • recusing from all board votes involving issues of past or current personal or financial interest to the board member, and

  • working in a professional manner.

In addition, board members will be expected to share in the responsibilities for

  • participating on board committees;

  • acting as liaisons between the board and its projects, chapters, working groups, events, and other bodies and activities, and representing their interests to the board (and the board to such groups);

  • raising funds to support CPSR and its groups;

  • speaking for CPSR on issues of public, legislative, or social concern; and

  • supporting projects, working groups, events, chapters, and the central office.

The change in the CPSR bylaws, approved by the membership in the June, 2000 ballot, abolished the position of Regional Director. All Directors are elected to "at large" positions.

The Board will select the corporate officers from amongst its membership. Note, the President and Chair positions are involved this year.

All positions take effect on July 1, 2003, although new Board members are invited to the scheduled June 21 and 22 Board Meeting (but would need to pay their own way).

Any member in good standing in CPSR as of March 7, 2003 and who has legal adult status in his/her home country may submit a statement in English of candidacy for the board election. The statement should be 500 words (or less) and include

1. a description of the candidates background and qualifications, including relevant educational and employment history, past work with CPSR, and any other relevant experiences, and

2. a brief policy statement outlining the candidate's perspective on the CPSR program and the issues facing the organization.

3. Optionally, a link to the candidate's own web page.

This statement for all candidates will be sent with election materials and posted on CPSR's website. Any candidate may also submit a longer statement, which will also be posted on the CPSR website.

The statement of candidacy will be submitted to the Board Development Committee for approval. If approved, the candidate will appear on the ballot.

Any member in good standing in CPSR as of March 7, 2003 and who has legal adult status in his/her home country can alternatively be nominated by petition, which includes a statement as described above. Such petition must be signed by two percent (2%) of the membership and submitted to the board by Friday, March 7.
