Computers, Security and Ethics Taught on
Two Campuses at the Same Time (Almost)

The presentation explains how two professors (Keith Miller from UIS and Marsha Woodbury from UIUC) co-taught a  course called Computers, Security, and Ethics at the University of Illinois at Springfield and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the Fall semester of 1997.  They were team-teaching using synchronous and asynchronous technologies.

You can download the PowerPoint presentation, twocamp.ppt
You can see the entire PowerPoint presentation for the talk at this address.
You can see the course syllabus at http://www.cpsr.org/~marsha-w/securitycourse.html

There is a video that will demonstrate how the classes used computer and video technology to achieve a workable format. The talk covers what to expect in the way of logistical and technical problems, as well problems inherent in distance education. Issues such as the very different cultures of the two campuses also were factors.

The presentation covers the history of the course from inception to execution, with all the technologies involved:
compressed television, the Web, the phone, the car, and more. Software includes NetMeeting, a secure website with web disucssions, and Netscape.
