Archiving CPSR history (April 2005)
Archiving CPSR history for Future Use
CPSR has a 24-year history. (See History and Timeline 1981-2002 ). Many people have contributed to CPSR --writing reports and position papers, creating videos, organizing and hosting meetings and conferences, editing proceedings from conferences, and collaborating with other organizations, for example. Much of this historical material is available in the archived section of the CPSR website, but those archives are not complete.
Shinji Yamane, Chair of CPSR/Japan Chapter, is collecting, cataloging, and digitizing more early CPSR historical resources to add them to the CPSR website.
Yamane began the project by visiting the CPSR office, where he
digitized The CPSR Newsletters and
CPSR Annual Report from 1983-1984. They are available now as pdf
files in the CPSR web site archives. For the newsletters, see
The 1984 & 1983 index.
We also have started to reorganize the history of publications section on the CPSR website.
The second step of archiving at the CPSR office is scheduled to start in mid June-July in 2005. We are especially interested in finding and digitizing these materials:
- Some 1981-1983 records:
This period might be useful for new chapters. Some historians are also interested in this area.
- Originals of CPSR Newsletter from 1983 -- 1984 (volume 1, volume
- Some videos. We need help with digital re-mastering tapes to DVD-ROM.
If you know the location of missing early CPSR materials, please contact Shinji Yamane and copy cpsr(a)cpsr.org.
